It’s New Years Day and in-between Christmas, working and seeing family, I have had some time to think about the year ahead and what I would like to focus on.
You hear the phrase ‘New year new you’ a lot but I like to think about the year ahead with a different approach. You should never need to create a ‘new you’ because then you wouldn’t be true to yourself. I think the best way is to focus your energy into something positive, making small changes that will make you a better version of yourself than the one you were yesterday.
I never make resolutions that are going to be thrown out of the window by day 2 – like telling myself I will not eat chocolate! That would just be ridiculous.
Instead I am looking to make improvements to my lifestyle, being more organised and making time to do things I want to do.
It’s okay to be a little bit selfish and put yourself first when planning your life.. everyone needs time for themselves and it doesn’t make you a bad person for saying ‘no’ once in a while – don’t feel guilty for wanting to create a bit of happiness and positivity.
This year my focuses are going to be on:
- Yoga – I will be taking the time to plan out a routine each week so that I can’t be annoyed or upset when I haven’t been able to fit it in. I also have a separate long term plan for my yoga journey making sure I am focusing on different areas so that my practice is kept well rounded.
- Meditation – I started meditating here and there, sometimes guided and sometimes just a few minutes in the morning focusing on my breath. Meditation is something I want to learn more about and also want to make it more regular, so that I can see if it benefits me in ways it does others..
- Journal – I have just started a journal after getting a lovely notebook from my sister for Christmas. I am simply just writing down any thoughts from the day and taking note of any feelings/emotions lingering around. I am finding this a really good way to let everything off your chest before going to sleep and starting the next day as new day. This is something I will definitely be keeping up – plus its a good way to see how far you have grown at the end of the year.
My mum also gave me this cool jar for Christmas where I can write down on a piece of paper anything positive that has happened in life, at the end of the year I will open the jar and reflect on all the great things that have happened – so I am excited to start filling it up and fingers crossed for a full jar by December!
I don’t know where this year will take me but I do know I will be doing lots of travelling to make up for not getting to leave the country last year – our first trip is in a few days time which I can’t wait for! I also have my children’s yoga teacher training course at the end of January which I am excited to complete and start teaching classes. I am hoping to do more than one yoga course this year and am eager to put all my energy into studying and learning as much as possible about all the different areas in yoga.
I hope that by reading this post I have encouraged you to think about what positive changes you would like to make this year, so that you can also start on a high.
Just remember… Today is the first blank page of a 365 page book – so write a good one!
Let me know what your new year changes are going to be in the comments below, I’d love to hear them.
Love, Dans x
